Alena Fikart, M.Sc. Environmental Scientist

Alena Fikart has over 10 years of experience, working primarily in the areas of ecological risk assessment (ERA) and environmental monitoring. During this tenure, Alena has been involved in developing novel approaches and guidance for ERAs, particularly with respect to contaminated industrial sites. Her environmental monitoring work has focused on stormwater, surface water and sediment quality assessments. Over the last two years, she has been part of a team tasked with the development of a technically-based risk ranking methodology for historical mine sites in British Columbia. Alena has coordinated the successful completion of environmental programs for industry (mining, pulp and paper, port facilities) and government clients (municipal, federal). As part of her graduate work, she developed and conducted an assessment of stormwater from logyards. Her research of this complex issue incorporated variability among sites and seasons in water quality and contaminant loadings and their ultimate influence on toxicity.
