Ryan Hill is an applied ecologist with 13 years of experience in Canada and abroad, as a consultant and as a staff member of inter-governmental organizations including the United Nations. He specializes in risk assessment and management of contaminated sites, environmental impact assessment, fish stock assessment, and science policy for addressing threats to biodiversity such as invasive species and genetically modified organisms.
Ryan's technical skills include formal decision analysis, quantitative risk analysis, development of computer models for risk assessment applications (e.g., food chain models) and fisheries applications, statistical data analysis, Bayesian methods and other approaches for dealing with scientific uncertainty. He has a strong interest in ensuring that decision-making processes embrace risks and benefits while reflecting the values of managers and stakeholders. He has published several journal articles and authored numerous reports on a wide range of both technical and policy issues.
