Implementation Assistance for Marine Pollution & Coastal Zone Legislation in Barbados

Client: Barbados Environmental Engineering Division & Coastal Zone Management Unit (for Stantec Consulting International Ltd.)

Patrick Allard of Azimuth was part of a team of experts that assisted the Government of Barbados in their implementation of the Coastal Zone Management Act and the Marine Pollution Control Act.

The overall goal was to support the preparation of regulations and other statutory instruments. Patrick’s role was three-fold:

  1. Participate in the development of a monitoring program aimed at evaluating the extent of coastal marine pollution;
  2. Prepare a national priority list of pollutants and generate a set of water quality standards for the protection of marine life; and
  3. Lead a classroom and field training program on environmental monitoring with particular emphasis on providing government staff with the tools necessary to withstand scientific and legal scrutiny.
